After dominating game, JV Gold comes away with a draw against Zionsville

JV Gold were ascendant in the first half, with a number of good chances and took a 1 – 0 advantage into halftime.

10 minutes in, a nice through ball from Brayden Pigott to Jack Nelson looked to open the scoring.  A slight touch by the Zville keeper unfortunately kept out the toe poke by Nelson.

In the 22nd minute, a free kick from the right corner was placed perfectly onto Rylen Jenski’s head by Will Chreist.  Only the crossbar kept Rylen from his 4th goal of the season.  Just a few minutes later Chreist made an overlapping run and crossed into Ace Musselman, whose shot went just wide.

Jenski didn’t have to wait much longer for his 4th, as a very nicely placed free kick from 22 yards out nicked the inside of the post on the way in.

For the 3rd or 4th time, just after the break, Jenski turned the corner on the right side a placed a great cross into the goal mouth, where Asher Hampton aggressively pursued the ball and knocked it in.  Jenski earned MOTM honors with his goal and assist.

The remainder of the 2nd half was not as kind to the good guys. Zville pressed harder and had the ball in our final third for much longer periods than in the first half.

In the 46th minute, Gold was dispossessed at midfield and a long through ball got behind our backline.  The 1 v 1 with Mason Andrews ended with a Zville goal. The remaining 25 minutes had us on our heels and few good scoring opportunities.

At the hour mark, a questionable PK was given as a Zville player tripped (seemingly over his own feet) at the edge of the box.  The spot kick was converted, evening the match.

In the final minute, a great corner kick by Chase Musgrove sailed into the Zville goal mouth, only to be wasted with no Gold player making the effort to head the ball in.

JV Gold has 2nd tough loss against Carmel this season.

Although the score did not reflect it, yesterday’s game was a big improvement over the earlier game at Carmel just 2 weeks ago.  Great efforts to the ball was the big change and the team is responding well to drills in training.

The first half, after a few nervous moments in the first 3 minutes, was evenly played.  JV Gold was generally on the front foot and had a number of chances.  Energy levels were very high among the home team, with exceptional efforts by MOTM Rylen Jenski.

15 Minutes into the half, Rylen connected solidly with the outside of his right boot on a great ball in by Asher Hampton.  The Carmel keeper made the save without too much trouble, but the home team looked strong.

GK Cooper Cass made a tremendous save midway through the half to keep the game deadlocked.

The back line of Sebastian Dixon, Adrian Dugarte, Will Chreist and Garett Wilensky held strong for the first 30 minutes.  However, a bad touch in front of the goal mouth led to the first Carmel goal 33 minutes in.

The 2nd half saw 2 more Carmel goals in quick succession.  Both were due to Carmel crashing the goal on shots, both of which were nearly saved by Mason Andrews, but both rebounds were put in by Carmel as they got around our defenders.  JV Gold’s energy level flagged a bit after that.  There were 2 free kicks dumped into the box late in the game, with Ace Musselman getting on the end of the second one.  Unfortunately, his first touch directed the ball directly at the keeper.

While not the result we had hoped, overall a good game.

JV Gold earns a hard fought 2-2 draw with rival Brownsburg

The long week of road games, with 3 games in 4 days, caught up to the good guys in black and gold versus Brownsburg.  After a quick start and 2 goals in the first half, we gave up 2 in the second half to end in a tie.

Left back and MOTM Will Chreist, along with right back Alex Jimenez kept the home team under control and ran down several long balls to prevent mayhem.  Captain and center back Adrian Dugarte, along with Garrett Wilensky and substitute Sebastian Dixon did a good job on defense.

Uncharacteristically, keepers Cooper Cass and Mason Andrews had some work to do yesterday.  While not under intense pressure, they had to keep on their toes more than past games.

Our first goal came early with Rylen Jenski turning the corner on the right side and slid a nice pass across the goal mouth to a waiting Sebastian Campuzano, who scored his 3rd goal in 4 games.  Jack Nelson finished the scoring for the home team later in the half, his 4th goal of the season.

The second half was not as favorable to the Millers.  Less energy in holding the ball and closing down opponents gave Brownsburg the opportunity to score, doing so twice in quick succession.

Late in the game Brayden Pigott barely missed a heroic finish, pinging one off the post after dispossessing a Brownsburg player, turning quickly and unleashing a powerful shot.  Nice effort and oh so close!

After 7 games in the first three weeks of the season, we have 14 points of a possible 21, winning 4, drawing 2 and losing one.  Goals For tally to 14 and Goals Against come to 9, for +5 goal differential.  Solid overall, but room for improvement.  Three of our for wins came with clean sheets; kudos to the entire defensive unit including Keagan Rolinson, a steady presence at the key defensive midfield role.

JV Gold gets revenge against Fishers with a 3-2 win after drawing first matchup

A good away win, especially as we went down on an early goal from the home team.  A very nice free kick goal from Jack Nelson midway through the 2nd half ended up the game winner.

Overall a good performance.  The always-solid back line did well, but late in the game there were some lapses on our side of the pitch, which made the ending a little too exciting.

1st Half goal:  Asher Hampton

2nd half goals: Rylen Jenski, Jack Nelson

JV Gold runs win streak to 2 with win over North Central

Another stalwart effort on defense by the JV Gold team, keeping a 3rd clean sheet in 4 games.  Our first road win was evenly played, but Gold was overall the better team with a deserved win.  NC had only a few half hearted attempts on goal.  It’s becoming common place for our keepers to have little to do.

The midfield solidified with strong efforts by several players in somewhat new positions, including Braden Pigott and Adnan Brnjak.

Jack Nelson, playing at right midfield made a great run down the touchline, somehow keeping the ball in for 30 yards before getting Gold a corner kick.  Jack’s corner kick across the goal mouth was tucked in by Sebastian Campuzano from about 12 yards out.  Nice finish!

Jack Nelson earned MOTM honors with solid play up to and in midfield, earning the corner that resulted in the game’s only goal.

JV Gold takes its lumps in loss to Carmel

Tough loss at Carmel last night.  Man of the Match Alex Jiminez and the entire defensive unit was strong.  The first goal given up was an inadvertent handball 2 minutes into the game, resulting in a PK goal.  The second goal was a counter-attack long ball that got behind the defense.

Jack Nelson scored our only goal with a nice finish on a long-ish ball from the back.

After 3 games and not many more practices than that, we are still getting our feet underneath us.  A changed formation and personnel adjustments were used last night to solidify our movement forward.  JV Gold was a bit tentative on loose balls and lacked confidence in possession.  We will continue to work on these areas and anticipate improvement in the coming weeks.

JV Gold earns first victory of the season against Brebeuf

The back line of Will Chreist, Adrian Dugarte, Garrett Wilensky, Alex Jimenez, Cole Henson and Sebastian Dixon kept a clean sheet, along with keepers Cooper Cass and Mason Andrews.  Job well done.  JV Gold did not allow a single shot on goal!

An early goal by captain Cole Henson, playing a in midfield to start the game versus his usual centerback spot, put JV Gold ahead.  This play was started by a nicely placed free kick into the box by Alex Jimenez.

JV Gold kept good control of the game, maintaining the majority of possession and a good number of chances were created until netting the 2nd goal with 7 minutes to go when Brayden Pigott received a pass from Ace Musselman, followed by a nifty turn and beat the keeper on his near post.  Nice shot!

JV Gold draws Fishers 2-2 in their season opener

Overall a good first game for Noblesville JV Gold.  With limited training sessions, the line-up was ever-changing, with several players in new positions.  While challeging, they adapted well.

A first half goal by Jack Nelson opened the scoring, but Fishers equalized before half.  Gold’s play was more fluid than initial game expectations.  Movement off the ball and ball movement were both good.

The second half continued with Gold having a good deal of possession and felt like the better team.  A goal by Rylan Jenski once more put Gold ahead.  Late in the game things were a bit ragged, and and disapointing equalizer was scored with less the 10 minutes to play.

The team looked good and will work hard to get better and with more time together will have a stong season.
